Vietnam posts solid ICT growth
|
The International
Telecommunication Union (ITU) rated Vietnam at the leading position for
its telecommunication growth rate, Tran Duc Lai, Deputy Minister of
Information and Communication, announced at the 2009 Vietnam
International Communication Conference held in Hanoi last week.
At the end of 2008, there were over 82.2 million telephone subscribers
of all types in the country, with over 16.2 fixed phone users, 66
million mobile phone subscribers and more than 20.6 million Internet
users, meanwhile Vietnam’s population was about 86 million people.
The country’s telephone density was posted at 97.5 units per 100
people, increasing by 27 times against 2000, in which the current fixed
phone subscribers was 6 times higher, the mobile phone subscribers of
80 times higher and Internet users of 100 times higher.
The telecommunication revenue continuously accelerated year on year. In
details, the telecommunication providers in 2008 gained 92.445 trillion
dong, up by about 38 percent against the previous year.
The market has seen an explosion in the quantity of mobile phone
subscribers with the amount of new subscribers in each year increased
by the total of those for accumulative previous years since 2005.
Along with the boost of mobile phone users, there has been a dramatic
increase in ADSL broadband Internet services since 2005 now recorded at
over 2 million at the end of 2008.
It’s expected that the uptrend in telecommunication growth rate in
Vietnam would still be increasing in the next few years, especially
when Vietnam has got four telecommunication providers approved to
implement the 3G technologies. From: Intellasia
